Pump Palace Gym Bunclody

Bunclody’s Pump Palace Gym, Fitness Center and Health Shop are celebrating ten successful years in business at the moment. This state of the art facility at Ryland Road, Bunclody, was expanded by proprietor Sean Nolan from nearby Kilmyshall some five years ago, and since then it has gone on from strength to strength.

At the time Sean invested considerable capital in bringing the best of fitness equipment from the United States to the people of Bunclody and the surrounding area. The overwhelming response from the public is a clear indication of the desire of both young and old to enjoy a new healthier lifestyle. Fortunately for them, their every need in the body-beautiful department can now be looked after by a man, whose sporting prowess to date makes him an ideal candidate to manage such an enterprise. Sean has completed a Sports and Leisure Management Course in Dublin, and he holds a diploma in sports psychology from Newcastle University in England. He has also completed a Sports Nutrition and Supplements Course. Sean has an FAI Preliminary Coaching Licence, European Level I, and he has a handball coaching licence from the Irish Handball Council. He also holds his Personal Fitness and Training Notice.

Sean holds two All Ireland medals, and numerous county and Leinster titles for handball. He has represented in two World Championships, travelling to Chicago where he reached the final of the Intermediate Singles just losing out  to Canada’s Curtis Croker 11-10 in the breaker. He won the World Powershot title when he was in Canada.

In weightlifting, he was runner up in the All Ireland Powerlifting Championship in 1998. He was involved in coaching the Celtic team, which beat the Vikings in the BBC-televised series Clash of the Giants. Sean’s enthusiasm for sport is surpassed only by the passion and enthusiasm he puts into providing the best facilities at the Pump Palace Gym, Fitness Center and Health Shop. It is the largest freeweights gym in Leinster, including seven Olympic bars, and its cardiovascular area includes cross trainers, treadmills, bikes and rowers. Entertainment is provided throughout the gym with satellite TV, including Sky sports and MTV. You need never miss that match or soap again.

Showers are avaialable for men and women, and there is also a health food shop on the premisies. Sean stocks supplements that cater for every requirement whether you are considering weight loss, weight gain, or indeed you are moving into body building. “We carry only the most up to date products, imported for the most part, from the U.S.” says Sean. “A lot of people are about taking suppllments such as creatine, but as long as expert advice is followed then people can be confident in using them. What happened was that people were abusing substances like creatine, trying to bulk up too quickly, and of course, the consequences were that they end up injuring themselves”.

Having completed Sports Nutrition Supplements Course himself, Sean is always on hand to offer the correct advice when using these products, just one more service amongst the many on offer in the gym. Boxing for kids takes place every Tuesday and Friday night, on a full-sized boxing ring.

Women’s aerobics is on every Monday and Wednesday, and at just €5 there is no excuse not to get fit and healthy! A turbo sauna room is also available, as is a remedial Swedish and sports masseur. No expense has been spared in providing all that is best at the Pump Palace Gym, Fitness Centre and Health Shop. Sean should be congratulated for undertaking such a commitment, which sees the gym packed on a nightly basis with patrons looking to fight the flab or just lose some weight. Sean has devised a range of fitness programmes to cater to every level of fitness, and to suit all ages. He is available for private consultations and can arrange a programme to suit the individual requirements of any person.
